It is the policy of JJP Contractors that operations carried out by the company are in accordance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
To deliver this we are committed to maintaining legal compliance and achieving the highest standards of health and safety strategies that targets risk awareness and management, safe behaviour, wellness and continuous improvement that aims to zero accidents and incidents.
We commit to document, implement, maintain and continually improve the effectiveness of our health and safety management system (SMS). We will review and set objectives as part of our annual management review and communicate these to staff.
All managers shall familiarise themselves with their duties as detailed within the health and safety policy, and all employees will have a part to play for the high standards to be achieved and maintained.
Michael Galligan has been nominated as the director responsible for health and safety and implementing this policy and associated duties. In order to carry out this policy responsibilities for health and safety have been clearly defined within the safety management system (SMS).
To implement this policy JJP Contractors will:
- Ensure the work under its control is carried out, as far as is reasonably practicable, in such a way to minimise the risk to the health and safety of employees, contractors, clients, the general public and any other parties that could be affected, to appreciate good safety performances as part of the integral safety culture throughout the business.
- Monitor and review our health and safety performance and Strive for continuous improvement within this safety performance through continually reviewing its working methods, working practices and safe systems of work.
- Employ a behavioural based safety culture “live a safe life” and consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety, aiming to prevent injury and causes of work- related ill health.
- Meet safety targets by establishing a strong commitment to training and safety-based initiatives and review training needs on a regular basis. The duties of employees are explained within the safety policy and within the health and safety induction briefing on first joining the company and will be reinforced through safety awareness training courses.
- Engage with employees so they can raise concerns on matters affecting their health and safety through employee consultation meetings and be advised by the director responsible for health and safety.
- Provide safe plant, equipment and tools that conform to the relevant standards and that the safe systems of work are in place and followed, employing the culture of “live a safe life”. For handling hazardous substances the company will have COSHH procedures in place to ensure safe use, storage and handling to provide a safe place of work and safe working environment for employees and persons not adversely affected by the companies works.
- Make this policy available to employees and other interested parties. Place and display this policy in a prominent position at all working sites with details of the organisation and arrangements for implementing this policy.
The operation of this policy will be monitored by Jonpaul O’Donnell and Michael Galligan and will be reviewed on and annual basis as a minimum and updated as either legislation or safe working practices change.
