Pre-Cast Construction

Pre-cast construction aids in relation to the construction programme because time can be saved through not requiring on site curing time. The need for formwork erection, concrete placement and curing and striking is removed. Pre-cast involves having items formed and cast off site and delivered to site as required. This is beneficial to cost, site constraints and the construction programme. On small sites or city centre site where space is a premium luxury, having pre-cast is beneficial in terms of the items can be delivered and installed on a just in time basis freeing up space otherwise used for formwork storage and fabrication. Construction programmes also benefit with the pre-cast deliveries used on a JIT system. Once the vertical elements start to get placed the falsework decking can begin to be erected usually on the same day. A hybrid system often works for high-rise fames having vertical elements such as columns and riser/shear walls erected in pre-cast and the slab formed as traditional RC insitu concrete.
